What is Hypnotherapy & Hypnosis?
- Hypnotherapy isn’t mind control – The client is always in control. Hypnotherapy works by guiding clients into a relaxed state, but they remain fully aware and can stop the process at any time.
- It isn’t a form of sleep – Despite common misconceptions, hypnosis doesn’t put clients to sleep. While deeply relaxed, the client is in a heightened state of focus and awareness, not unconscious.
- It isn’t magic or instant – While hypnotherapy can be highly effective, it is not an instant cure. Results often require several sessions, especially for deeply rooted issues, and progress depends on the client’s participation and openness.
- It isn’t about losing control – Clients won’t do or say anything against their will. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process where the therapist guides, but the client is always in charge.
- It isn’t the same as stage hypnosis – Stage hypnosis is entertainment, whereas hypnotherapy is a therapeutic tool used to address specific psychological, behavioural, or emotional issues. It’s safe, professional, and goal oriented.
- It isn’t therapy without active involvement – Hypnotherapy requires the client’s active participation, such as being open to suggestions, willing to engage with the process, and applying learned strategies in real life.
- It isn’t a replacement for medical or psychological treatment – Hypnotherapy can complement other treatments, but it is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment from a healthcare professional.
The Difference Between Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis
is a natural, altered state of consciousness where an individual is deeply relaxed and focused. It often involves a heightened state of suggestibility, meaning the person is more open to suggestions.
Hypnotherapy
is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to address specific issues, such as anxiety, phobias, or negative habits. A trained therapist uses hypnosis as a tool to help clients achieve their goals in conjunction with coaching and other modalities such as NLP or mindset work.
