The HypnoMenopause® Approach

Empowering Women to thrive during the menopause before, during and beyond!

As a fully trained HypnoMenopause® Practitioner, I’d like to take this opportunity to explain how hypnotherapy can help you during menopause and to answer some of the questions you might have.

Whatever stage of menopause you’re experiencing, you might be finding this time of life difficult for several reasons and wondering how The HypnoMenopause® Approach can help.

The HypnoMenopause® approach is an integrated approach, which draws on various approaches within hypnotherapy, including CBT-hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Mindset Coaching, Solution Focused Therapy and Mindfulness. It also places an importance on education and self-hypnosis.

Although issues with vasomotor symptoms are what drives many women to seek out alternative and complementary therapies, there’s so much more going on at this time than physical and hormonal changes.

For some women, this transitional phase is characterised hot flushes and night sweats, fatigue, aches and pains, sleep problems, weight gain  and a range of other symptoms which make it hard to function. It’s also a time when women may be struggling with life pressures and a shifting sense of their own identity.

Hypnomenopause

In clinical trials, hypnotherapy has been shown to alleviate hot flushes by up to an incredible 74%, in addition to helping mood, sleep and sexual function and many other menopause symptoms

The physical changes which are taking place are often a wakeup call that life isn’t infinite, and that it’s important to take the opportunity to create change, if change is needed. Many women find that this is a time of huge potential.

Quite often menopause symptoms can be enhanced by undealt trauma, emotions, beliefs and past events, especially from childhood, we can break through these barriers so that you show up empowered, healed & confident with a  thriving mindset knowing you can feel great, have what you want, and be who you choose to be.

I split menopause into four key areas:

EmpowerHER

(How you show up and respond)

MenoHER

(Managing your symptoms)

MoveHER

(Fitness & exercise)

I work alongside a female personal trainer who specialises in women’s fitness, particularly during menopause. She understands exactly how our bodies need to move at this stage of life because the old routines often stop working! Building muscle mass and bone density becomes essential, alongside supporting cardiovascular health.

FuelHER

(Fuelling your body with the right foods)

I work in partnership with a Dr O’Connell, who specialises in Menopause; I can refer clients to Dr  O’Connell, if they are not receiving the support from their own GP or are on a waiting list for the menopause clinic or would just like a specialist’s opinion if they are experiencing debilitating symptoms.

Dr Cliona O’Connell is accredited by the British Menopause Society specialising in the management of all aspects of perimenopause and menopause. Her approach includes a comprehensive assessment from diagnosis to personalised symptom management.

Individualised treatment can involve Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and/or a holistic approach tailored to your needs.

Dr O'connell

Research shows that some of the primary areas in which women can help reduce and manage menopausal symptoms include exercise, diet, sleep and stress management.

Future Proof your body!!

We only have one body, and it amuses me how we expect it to just keep working at full speed, in brilliant health, whilst we give little time to actually invest in our body our health…  in ourselves!!!

We then spend the latter part of our life in ill health, in pain, not feeling good, beating ourselves up as we don’t have the body we want, we become restricted on what we can do, we become less mobile, we become disgruntled, and we start living a lesser unfulfilled life.

Female life expectancy is around 83 years, of which 20.1 years (24%) would have been spent in poor health!! Madness right!?Especially when we are doing this to ourselves, and it can mostly be prevented!!

This can all be prevented if we see the importance of investing in our health and our body from as young as possible (you are never too old to start btw!!) so that we can live as long as possible, pain free, symptom free and keep us moving well into older age.

“We don't stop moving because we get old, we get old because we stop moving.”

What can happen in approaching perimenopause & menopause years?

HypnoMenopause® 6-week Programme Overview

A calm, personalised approach to menopause support

The HypnoMenopause® 6 week programme is a gentle yet powerful blend of hypnotherapy, mindset coaching and holistic menopause support. It is designed to help you feel calmer, more in control and more connected to your body during perimenopause and menopause.

This programme supports women who are experiencing symptoms such as anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, sleep issues, weight challenges, loss of confidence or feeling disconnected from themselves during midlife.

Your first step

We begin with a free consultation, either via Zoom or in person. This is a relaxed, supportive conversation where you can ask questions, share what you are experiencing, and explore whether HypnoMenopause® feels like the right fit for you.

If we decide to work together, you will then move into the full 6 week programme, which usually includes up to five additional one hour sessions.

What the HypnoMenopause® programme includes

Each session is tailored specifically to you and your menopause journey. As a guide, sessions may include:

• Clinical hypnotherapy for menopause symptoms
• Meditation to calm the nervous system
• Guided visualisation for emotional balance and confidence
• CBT informed tools to reframe unhelpful thought patterns
• Mindset coaching to support identity, self belief and life transitions
• NLP techniques to release limiting beliefs and emotional triggers

Support between sessions

You are never doing this alone.

Alongside your sessions, you may be given gentle growth work to complete between appointments. This helps integrate the hypnotherapy and mindset shifts into everyday life, supporting lasting change.

You will also have access to me via WhatsApp or email throughout the programme, offering reassurance, accountability and support when you need it. Many clients describe this as having a coach in their pocket.

One way in which hypnotherapy may be able to help women during menopause is by increasing awareness of, and working with the mind-body connection and research suggests that hypnosis can allow for an increased sense of mind-body connection

Frequently asked questions:

We often think of the brain and body as being separate, when, in fact, they’re completely connected. Everything we think impacts us at a physical level (take a moment to think of something which causes you fear, and notice how your body reacts). Hypnotherapy can help us connect with our body at a deep level and, in addition to changing the messages we offer ourselves, visualisation is linked to physical changes at the cellular level. Whatever physical menopausal symptoms you have, increasing your mind-body awareness has the capacity to help.

It works with the subconscious mind
Traditional menopause support often focuses on hormone levels, medication or lifestyle advice alone. HypnoMenopause® uses hypnotherapy, NLP and mindset coaching to gently reprogram subconscious patterns that influence anxiety, sleep, confidence, emotional eating, stress and self worth during menopause.

It calms the nervous system first
Many menopause symptoms are amplified by chronic stress and an over activated nervous system. HypnoMenopause® prioritises nervous system regulation through hypnotherapy, guided visualisation and relaxation techniques, helping the body move out of survival mode and into balance.

It supports emotional and identity shifts
Midlife often brings changes in identity, relationships, confidence and purpose. Traditional approaches rarely address this emotional layer. HypnoMenopause® supports you through these transitions, helping you reconnect with yourself, release old roles and build a new sense of clarity and self trust.

It is fully personalised, not a one size fits all plan
Menopause does not look the same for every woman. HypnoMenopause® sessions are tailored to your symptoms, experiences, beliefs and goals. We work with your history, your nervous system and your lifestyle, rather than following a generic protocol.

It bridges mindset, menopause and wellbeing
Rather than separating mental health, physical symptoms and emotional wellbeing, HypnoMenopause® integrates them. This mind and body approach creates deeper, longer lasting change than surface level strategies alone.

It offers support between sessions
Unlike many traditional services, you are not left to manage alone between appointments. You have ongoing access to support, guidance and reassurance throughout the programme, helping you feel held, understood and supported.

Who HypnoMenopause® is for

HypnoMenopause® is ideal for women who
• Feel overwhelmed, anxious or emotionally stuck during perimenopause or menopause
• Are tired of being told everything is normal but still do not feel like themselves
• Want a holistic menopause approach without relying solely on medication
• Know their symptoms are linked to stress, past experiences or subconscious patterns
• Want to feel calm, confident and in control of their body again

HypnoMenopause® is not about pushing through menopause. It is about supporting your body and mind to move through this transition with compassion, clarity and confidence.

The first step in our work together is a free consultation, by zoom, during which I will answer any questions you have and establish whether HypnoMenopause® is the right approach for you. Following that, you will usually have up to five sessions, during which you will work on different aspects of your experience.

During a session, I will talk you into a relaxed, focused state and use a combination of guided meditations and powerful therapeutic tools including NLP, mindfulness and CBT to help you create your desired changes.

As with any type of therapy, hypnotherapy isn’t guaranteed to help. However, if you are genuinely motivated to create change and are open to exploring hypnotherapy, like many clients it is likely you will see an improvement in your symptoms.

We know from research that some people are more hypnotisable than others. If you’ve ever been really engrossed in a good book, or spent some time getting lost in a daydream, you have the capacity to reach a state of mind which is just right for you.

We also know that the clients who experience the greatest transformations are those who are motivated – regardless of whether or not they’re highly hypnotisable.

In addition to that, HypnoMenopause® draws on a range of different approaches, including mindfulness, CBT and NLP and people tend to find that they respond well to this integrated therapeutic approach.

If you’re on HRT and wish to continue taking it, it’s perfectly ok to use hypnotherapy alongside your medication as a complementary approach.

Everyone’s experience is unique and whilst some women stay on HRT during their HypnoMenopause® Programme, others seek it out as an alternative therapy.

In clinical trials, hypnotherapy has been shown to have an effectiveness rate of up to 74% in the treatment of hot flushes – a similar success rate to HRT. It also helps with mood, sleep and sexual function so, for some women, it provides an effective alternative to medication.

HypnoMenopause® is designed to work with women, no matter whether they’re perimenopausal or post menopausal. Menopausal symptoms can persist for several years and this programme can help you, whatever your experience.

Some women seek out HypnoMenopause® because of physical symptoms, some women seek out hypnotherapy because of mood disorders and some women seek it out simply because they’re feeling stressed, fatigued and overwhelmed.

HypnoMenopause® is designed to help with everything from coping with mid-life career stress, to empty-nest syndrome to hot flushes.

During your initial consultation, we can discuss your needs, including how many sessions you might require. Generally for the basic HypnoMenopause® programme it is a 6 week session programme.

This allows me to adopt a holistic and integrated approach with you. Unlike a doctor, I’m not just here to treat your symptoms. I’m here to help you pursue the fulfilled life which you deserve. As part of your programme, you’ll receive recordings and will be taught self-hypnosis so that you can carry the work forwards for the rest of your life.

One way in which hypnotherapy may be able to help women during menopause is by increasing awareness of, and working with the mind-body connection and research suggests that hypnosis can allow for an increased sense of mind-body connection (Jiang, et al, 2017).

Ultimately, HypnoMenopause® will help you move to a point where you embrace this time in your life as one of potential and self-growth.
